The Weiss Escape Lock Tee
Inspired by Erik Weiss, later known as Harry Houdini, the master of escapes and impossible restraint acts, the Weiss Escape Lock Tee pays tribute to the origins of modern illusion and vaudeville-era engineering.
At the center of the design is a hand-distressed antique lock, crafted after historic escape hardware associated with stage restraints and early mechanical security systems. The lock carries the weight of something built not just to secure, but to be defeated.
Across its surface sits bold, raised “WEISS” lettering, referencing Houdini’s birth name and grounding the piece in his true identity: Erik Weisz. The result feels less like apparel and more like a recovered artifact from a traveling illusion show.
The design itself is treated with the same hands-on approach as the performance history that inspired it. Each shirt is screenprinted, giving the artwork a tactile, crafted quality that digital printing simply cannot replicate. Subtle variations in ink, pressure, texture, and finish are part of the process, making every piece feel slightly unique.
Each shirt is also individually hand-distressed, meaning no two pieces are identical. Wear patterns, fading, and texture vary naturally from garment to garment, continuing to evolve over time.
This is not a costume piece. It is a handmade relic of performance history, reimagined as wearable design.
